Nádúr na Beatha

Off Grid Smallholding in Co. Donegal

Begun in 2017, Nádúr na Beatha or “The Nature of Life” is an off-grid (very) smallholding nestled at the foot of Sliabh an Earagail or “Errigal Mountain” in northwest Donegal.
At under 2 Acres, it’s on the smaller side of rural homesteads of farms, and stewards Evan and Sarah have been slowly working together with their little slice of paradise to plant predominantly native woodlands, forest gardens, chicken composting systems and have built a number of off-grid buildings such as polytunnels, a Shepherd’s Hut Tiny House and a Post and Beam Timber Frame house along with sheds and vegetable gardens.

They host Meithleacha or “collaborative work parties” where mutual learning, support and working together on a project in community are key – such as their “house raising party” where across four days their handmade timber-frame house was pegged together and raised into position by a host of friends, families, volunteers and local community members alike.

They will also be looking forward to welcoming volunteers on a short-stay residential basis from 2025 onwards, as the projects on site at Nádúr na Beatha develop and continue.
